What’s Keeping You Up Yarn Snob?

No..I’m not waiting for Holly to come indoors, no I haven’t got a headache and no my husband’s loud snoring is not keeping me awake…..its 2.30am but this little beauty has been keeping me up:

Seven skeins of Peapod goodness and a pattern arrived on my doorstep the other day from the lovely Plucky. It’s Blue Sky Alpaca Silk and it’s the softess, squishiest yarn ever, in a scrummy Peadpod colour. I don’t like peas but this is an absolute exception.

Plucky and I are knitting this. So beautiful and has a delicate crochet picot edging….eeeeekkkk!!!!! So anybody know anything about how to do a picot edging….this way please!!!

It knits up beautifully and because of the 50% silk content in it…….the drape is stunning. You can see how it drapes so softly on the needle as you knit and I wonder if it really does need blocking. I haven’t been able to put this down since I cast on earlier this evening. Nothing is coming between me and Peapod!!!

With the pattern  so easy….could watch tv and talk to hubby at the same time 🙂 (My kinda knitting,)

Cast on knitters, get the pattern and join in..lets all start knitting!!! I’ve finished one skein and ready for the next P!!!!

………yes darling, I’ll be up soon……..just one more row…..or two or ten 🙂

I’ve Learnt My Lesson

Here she is, the Sea and Shell Stole I’ve been working on for weeks now.

She’s 134cm in length and 36cm in width.  I would have made it longer as I had approx 45g left of yarn but I’ll tell you more about that later.

It needs to be blocked too so I hope that blocking would make it bigger.

I used 2 skeins of Lucia yarn from Posh Yarn with 5mm needles.

Now you can’t tell from the photograph but the two skeins I used were slightly different in colour. One skein was slighty lighter, as if it had been in the sun. As a result, you could see the difference on the stole. Hand Dyed yarn can vary.

Now I hear you all screaming at me…Why didn’t you knit the two skeins together to avoid this?……..yeah I know, why didn’t I??? I ask myself that too, but being an unexperienced knitter, I didn’t think…Doh!!!

Anyhow, I contacted Dee to ask for advice. FROG it she said!!!!!! (hate that word) but she also said she could try and “Over Dye” it, something she has never done on a knitted item and so big too. That’s the reason I had to cast off early as she said the outcome of it my be uneven. I don’t care!!

I have TOTAL confidence in Dee and I know she will make a great job of it and really appreciate the responsibilty I have placed upon her, such a doll.

Sorry darling, I won’t do it again, I promise!! Thank you Dee!!! xx

………and next time, I will knit with two skeins together 🙂

My Birthday And I’m Feeling Good: My Birthday Treat For You All

Not only is it my birthday today and I’m a year older, more wrinkly and a few extra greys hairs here and there, I’m feeling great….why?

Have a look:

yes….I frogged THEM socks…yay!!! It also had a knot in the yarn, not made by me, so frog it had to be. (previous post)

I feel good…why because if anyone would like it and they don’t mind the knot and it being knitted up and frogged……then you are welcome to it. My birthday treat for all my fellow knitters and friends out there. Its PY Emily, 80% lambswool, 10% cashmere and 10% angora, its very soft.

Whereever you are in the world, I’ll find a way to get it to you. All you have to do is wish me a Happy Birthday and all names/comments on this post will be put into a hat and I will draw out one lucky winner on 19th April at 10.00pm. How’s that sound?

Cupcake, Kooistra & Hobbledehoy

I’m shrieking with delight, can you hear me?

I’m being really spoilt here. I received lovely Cupcake from a dear dear friend called Kooistra. She’s hand dyed merino from Hobbledehoy and she is beautiful.
She’s destined to be a cowl and she’s going to be gorgeous and warm. I love the colours, can you tell these are my favourite colours?

Thank you Kooistra for being so kind and thank you Liz for dyeing such a awesome yarn.

Sorry Feet, Forgive Me

I’m really not sure about this colour, it’s so not me. I love orange as a fruit to eat, to smell, to peel but not to wear. I’m sure my feet won’t complain as they’re really well behaved but I really can’t see myself wearing these, but I will still finish them. Would it be right to give something away that you don’t like yourself?

Pattern :Slip Up From Posh Yarn

Needles: 2.5mm circulars

Yarn : Tickly PY Emily

More Stash

My lovely postman Steve delivered this to me this morning…more yummy yarn from PY. Aren’t they gorgeous!!!

The sun is shining and delivery of some lovely yarn, it’s going to be a great day!!!

It’s A Cowl

My next finished project in a while is this. Its a cowl, inspired by Kooistra( she knows who she is!!) and is knitted for my wacky but weird sister. She doesn’t read my blog so she won’t know I’ve called her weird 🙂

Its knitted using Cherrytree Hill Sock Yarn Slate using 3.5mm dpns, a simple stocking stitch with a few purl rows here and there. She wanted something plain and a solid colour.

That’s me modelling it, but don’t wear it like that!!!

I Should Have Listened To You All

I was tempted with the Koigu as I’ve never knitted with this before but I couldn’t make my mind up to use which pattern and didn’t want to frog (hate that word) it.

So, I went for the Emily as I’ve never knitted with this before. Is it my Emily or just me but the fibres are really making my nose itch and I’m constantly twitching my nose.

Anyway, it was knitted and frogged and knitted and frogged and its almost felted now. Finally, I managed to get going and have done 1.5 inches of the cuff….WOW. I am just going to use a simple slip pattern.
My nose is still itching and I am seriously thinking of clipping my nose with a clothes peg and breathing through my mouth 😦
I’m not sure I like the shade, somehow it always looks different. Am I being rather fussy?
Picture of my sock later.
